Myths, Hoaxes, Urban Legends, & Chain Email
If you're like most people, every day, your email inbox fills up with junk mail. Most of it contains pitches for some useless product or get rich quick scheme, but other messages contain dire virus warnings or fervent and often sincere sounding pleas for various worthy causes. Such chain emails always have a tone of urgency and encourage you to forward the message as widely as possible. Some contain pitches for you to send money. Sometimes these messages take the form of petitions. One such message that makes the rounds regularly was a well-meaning, but futile, attempt to help women in Afghanistan. The grim plight of Afghan women is very real. Unfortunately, the chain letter isn't.
